Dr. Schumacher has performed advanced laparoscopic surgery since 1993. He began a laparoscopic bariatric practice in 2000 in Pennsylvania and relocated to Ohio in 2005 to open Kettering Bariatrics. He is currently the director of bariatrics at Kettering/Sycamore Hospital and has been estimated to have performed over 3000 bariatric cases to date. He currently offers laparoscopic approaches to Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, Adjustable Gastric Banding, Sleeve Gastrectomy, Duodenal Switch and revisional surgeries.
Dr. Schumacher has authored several articles in medical journals and has presented at the national level to his colleagues on techniques, prevention of leaks, and results of laparoscopic bariatric surgery. Dr. Schumacher also offers advanced laparoscopy for numerous general surgery procedures including ventral hernias, intestinal resections, reflux procedures, adrenalectomy, splenectomy, and pancreatic procedures.
He received his undergraduate degree from Ohio Northern University and his medical degree from the Ohio State University, School of Medicine. He completed his internship at Loyola Medical School and his residency at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center. He is Board Certified in General Surgery since 1994. He is a fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, Midwestern Surgical Society, American Medical Association, American Society of General Surgeons, and the Montgomery County Medical Society.
